Bio

Pamela Bishop, PhD candidate, MSW, joined the Colorado State University faculty in the fall of 2000. She received her MSW degree from the University of Denver. Before coming to CSU, she was a social work practitioner for over 18 years pre- and post-MSW. Ms. Bishop has work experience in the following areas: developmental disabilities, child protective services, school social work, group work, and individual counseling. She has taught course work for Colorado State University for 12 years, focusing on group work at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, development of skills, theories, and freshman seminar. Her primary responsibilities include addressing problems and solving issues that arise with courses, instructors, university requirements, health and safety, as well as those that occur with roommates, work, etc. In addition to working at CSU, she is on the board of directors of a county nonprofit affordable housing program; she volunteers with the Poudre R-1 school district, and she is a trained mediator. Ms. Bishop received the NASW Social Worker of the Year Award in 2010, and she has been a member of the Human Rights Committee for the community center board for Larimer County. Ms. Bishop has been a co-principal investigator for the Hartford/Social Work Leadership Institute grant at CSU with three other faculty, and she serves as a field instructor and field liaison for students at both the MSW and BSW levels. She has been nominated for teacher of the year four years at CSU. She is a strong advocate for women’s issues, having volunteered and supported the work of Crossroads Safehouse. She is also trained in crisis response, has run groups for alcohol addictions, and has personal and professional experience working with Native Americans. Her dissertation is focused on determining what factors are influential for a MSW student to choose a concentration/career in the field of aging/gerontology.
