Non-profit Administration Certificate

This graduate certificate program teaches human service professionals to provide strengths-based nonprofit program, financial, and volunteer development. This online program will apply various management tools for effective organizational administration within an ethical framework.

Students will learn how to:

  • Apply development strategies for a nonprofit agency including: strategic plan, nonprofit budget, fund development plan, analysis of grant funding sources, and development of agency goals
  • Apply knowledge of components of program development through creation of a program development proposal, including executive summary, budget, and evaluation plan
  • Distinguish and apply human service values, ethics, theories, and skills to nonprofit management and volunteer programming and management
  • Apply theoretical models of volunteerism and volunteer management to organizational contexts and direct practice
  • Design a volunteer recruitment, training, and evaluation plan
  • Illustrate knowledge in strategic program planning and management, community organizing, staffing and boards, and evaluation and implementation strategy in varied organization structures and cultures

REQUIREMENTS AND CURRICULUM

There is no application process to take any of the Nonprofit Administration Certificate courses (which can be taken separately from the certificate), but students must have completed a bachelor’s level degree or receive an override from the instructor before registering.The following courses are required for the Certificate:

  • SOWK 660 – Nonprofit program development (3 cr.)
  • SOWK 661 – Financial Development (3 cr.)
  • SOWK 662 – Volunteer Development and Management (3 cr.)

WAYS TO USE THIS CERTIFICATE

This certificate can be used to prepare for working in the nonprofit arena as an administrator or supervisor. People who receive this certificate will gain knowledge needed for financial development of a nonprofit agency, program development, and volunteer development. Many people who go into work in the nonprofit arena are not prepared to move in to administrative roles. With this certificate, students will be marketable to move straight into administration.
